Happiness, essentially, is a state of mind. It is a feeling. It is triggered by certain events and things we experience in life. This state of mind is constantly changing and builds up over time. This state keeps evolving based on the kind of experiences we accumulate over time.
Overtime, we develop our own happiness ‘setpoint’ or how we feel most of the time. Some people feel generally content with their lives, and others may have ongoing issues such as health, financial, relationship, loneliness or other problems.
The setpoint or default state continues until we do something to change what is causing dissatisfaction or discontent in life. Unless and until we do something to change the cause and source of dissatisfaction, or come to terms with in, the sense and state of happiness does not change.
The good news is that we can change certain things at our life at anytime, if we so desire and work on it. To achieve that, we have to first identify the source of discontent and unhappiness.
Most of the issues that cause unhappiness or discontent fall in to four categories – health, finances, relationships, and mind engagement. I call them Four Pillars of Happiness.
Each of the four pillars of happiness has a definitive impact but its affect varies on each individual. But each individual is affected by all of these factors and pillars.
I will write further posts to explain each of these pillars in detail and how you can measure your life in all of these areas and create your own programs to make improvements and make your lives a LittleBitHappier, one step at a time.
