Happiness is a state of mind—a feeling of well-being that is influenced by many aspects of our lives.
Life is constantly changing, and so is our happiness. Things happen. Life happens. We cannot expect to feel completely happy all the time. But we can examine the things that influence our happiness and, where possible, make changes that help us become a little bit happier. The first step is understanding where we are.
What is working well in our lives? What is causing concern or dissatisfaction? What can we change? What may be beyond our control? And where could even a small change make a meaningful difference? By asking these questions honestly, we can begin to understand our own happiness and make thoughtful choices about what deserves our attention.
To better understand our own happiness, it helps to look more closely at four important areas of life:

Physical Health
How we feel physically affects how we experience almost everything else in life. Our health, energy, comfort, movement, rest, and daily habits all contribute to our sense of well-being.

Financial Well-Being
Money is part of everyday life. Our ability to meet our needs, manage our responsibilities, and feel reasonably secure can have a significant influence on our peace of mind.

Relationships
We live our lives in relationship with other people. Family, friends, partners, coworkers, and the people around us can bring connection, belonging, support, conflict, or concern into our lives.

Engaged Mind
Our mind needs somewhere positive and meaningful to go. Interests, activities, responsibilities, learning, creativity, purpose, and involvement with others can give our days direction and keep our minds positively engaged.
These four areas are interconnected, and each person’s circumstances are different. The purpose is not to achieve perfection in all four. It is to understand where we are today, recognize what is working well, and discover where thoughtful changes might make our lives a little bit happier.
